SIMS analysis of ion transport mechanism in lithium-ion batteries – Application note.

Understanding the ion transport mechanism in Li-based thin films is key to lithium battery design and performance optimization. A new protocol allows to measure the tracer diffusion coefficient using Dynamic SIMS and the ion exchange method. In this study, SIMS measurements were performed in lithium manganese oxide, a promising material for lithium-ion batteries.

Dynamic SIMS is ideal for measurement of challenging light species such as lithium isotopes, providing a direct measurement with good sensitivity, low background and high precision.
