SX 100R

SHIELDED EPMA

for radioactive samples

Dedicated instrumentation had to be developed to work with and analyze radioactive samples (gamma rays). The SX100R is based on the SX100. The major points to be noted are:
  • The physical instrument is installed in a "hot" cell (shielded room).
  • The instrument is fully remote-controlled (stage, column, diaphragms,...) with electronics and computer in the "cold" cell.
  • Tele-manipulators are used to insert and mount the radioactive samples: for each sample exchange, the analysis chamber is vented and the stage is moved to a position directly accessible with tele-manipulators.
  • All WDS analyzers and detectors are shielded against the gamma rays.
  • The stage is made of Denal material for shielding.
  • The SE detector has a special orientation to avoid gamma ray perturbation.
  • In case of failure or maintenance, the complete stage holding the sample can be moved (with motors and/or manually) into a "hot "cell, or stored in a Denal cask for further transport and inspection.
Sample transfer and introduction can be customized according to the laboratory's needs and background.
